NLNG PLANS 50% INCREASE IN COOKING GAS PRODUCTION

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited plans to increase its cooking gas production by 50 per cent by the end of 2027 as it seeks to meet growing domestic demand.

The company’s plan is aimed at expanding the availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas in the Nigerian market and supporting the country’s transition towards cleaner cooking fuels.

NLNG has become an important supplier to Nigeria’s domestic LPG market, with its production contributing to efforts to reduce dependence on imported cooking gas.

The planned increase comes as demand for LPG continues to grow among households and businesses.

The expansion is also expected to support efforts to improve domestic supply and reduce exposure to international market pressures that can affect the price of imported products.

Industry stakeholders have repeatedly called for greater investment in gas infrastructure, storage, transportation and distribution to make cooking gas more accessible to consumers.

Increasing domestic production would help strengthen the supply chain, although the availability and affordability of LPG would also depend on distribution infrastructure and market conditions.

NLNG’s planned expansion comes amid broader government and industry efforts to encourage the use of cleaner cooking fuels and expand access to natural gas.

The company expects the additional production capacity to contribute to meeting Nigeria’s rising LPG requirements by 2027.
