NIMET PREDICTS WIDESPREAD RAIN, THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NIGERIA

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast moderate rainfall and thunderstorms across several parts of Nigeria on Monday, August 31, 2026, warning residents in affected areas to prepare for changing weather conditions.

In its Daily Weather Outlook covering the period from midnight to 11:59pm on Monday, NiMet predicted isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across parts of the northern region during the morning hours.

The agency said parts of Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states could experience morning thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall.

For the afternoon and evening period, NiMet forecast further thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across much of the North-West, as well as parts of Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states.

The weather agency also projected cloudy conditions over parts of the North-Central region during the morning.

According to the forecast, parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue and Niger states could experience rainfall during the morning hours.

NiMet further predicted that thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall would affect most parts of the Central States later in the day.

The agency's forecast comes during a period of increased rainfall activity across several parts of the country, with thunderstorms capable of producing sudden heavy rain and strong winds.

Residents in areas expecting thunderstorms are therefore advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of intense rainfall and strong winds.

Motorists may also experience reduced visibility and difficult driving conditions in areas affected by heavy rainfall.

The weather conditions could equally affect outdoor activities, aviation and other forms of transportation, particularly where thunderstorms become intense.

NiMet's latest forecast reinforces the need for residents and relevant authorities to remain alert to weather updates, especially in areas prone to flooding or other weather-related hazards.

The agency has continued to encourage members of the public to monitor its official weather advisories and take appropriate precautions whenever severe weather conditions are forecast.

The forecast covers different regions of the country, reflecting the varying weather patterns expected across northern, central and southern Nigeria.

Residents are therefore encouraged to plan their activities with the forecast conditions in mind and avoid unnecessary exposure during severe thunderstorms.
