NIMC WARNS NIGERIANS AGAINST FAKE NIN CORRECTION PORTAL SCAM
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has warned Nigerians to be cautious of fraudulent websites and portals claiming to offer National Identification Number (NIN) correction services.
According to the commission, scammers are creating fake platforms designed to steal personal information and collect unauthorized payments from unsuspecting members of the public.
NIMC emphasized that any updates or corrections to NIN records should only be carried out through approved channels and authorized enrollment centers.
The agency urged Nigerians not to submit personal data, identification details, passwords, or payment information to unofficial websites advertising NIN modification services.
Officials noted that cybercriminals often exploit public demand for identity-related services by creating convincing fake portals that mimic legitimate government platforms.
The commission advised citizens to verify information through official NIMC communication channels before engaging with any online service related to identity management.
NIMC also encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious websites or receives fraudulent messages regarding NIN corrections to report them to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
