The National Identity Management Commission has taken another major step toward simplifying identity registration in Nigeria with the launch of a new digital Pre-Enrolment Portal aimed at reducing delays and long queues at enrolment centres nationwide.

According to the commission, the newly introduced platform allows applicants to submit their personal details online, upload required documents, and book appointments before visiting an enrolment centre for biometric capture. This approach is expected to significantly cut waiting time, improve data accuracy, and make the overall registration process more convenient for citizens.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Friday, NIMC explained that the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to deliver efficient, secure, and citizen-friendly digital identity services. The commission noted that congestion and long processing times at enrolment centres have been a major challenge for many Nigerians seeking to obtain or update their National Identification Number, and the new system is designed to address these concerns

Speaking on the development, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr Kayode Adegoke, said the portal enables prospective applicants, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to complete their biodata registration online ahead of physical biometric capture. He explained that this would not only ease pressure on enrolment centres but also ensure that applicants’ information is accurately captured directly by them.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, also highlighted the importance of the platform, noting that it allows applicants to complete a substantial part of the registration process from the comfort of their homes. According to her, this digital approach streamlines operations and improves efficiency across the entire enrolment system.

Key features of the Pre-Enrolment Portal include online entry and management of NIN biodata, appointment scheduling to minimise delays, secure upload of required documents, and strict confidentiality measures to protect users’ personal information. By allowing applicants to input their own details, the system also reduces errors that can occur during manual data entry at enrolment centres.

NIMC added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises digital transformation, improved public service delivery, and inclusive national development. The commission described the portal as a critical tool in building a reliable and comprehensive digital identity ecosystem that supports effective governance, planning, and service delivery.

The commission has encouraged all Nigerians who are yet to enrol or need to update their records to take advantage of the new Pre-Enrolment Portal, describing it as a faster, more convenient, and stress-free pathway to NIN registration. With the launch of this platform, NIMC says it is reinforcing its commitment to making identity registration accessible, efficient and fit for a modern digital Nigeria.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
