The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has launched a state-of-the-art real-time vessel monitoring platform to enhance maritime security, safety, and operational efficiency in Nigerian waters.

The advanced digital system integrates satellite tracking, Automatic Identification System (AIS), and other technologies to provide live visibility of all vessels operating within Nigeria’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, said the platform will significantly improve response to incidents, combat illegal bunkering, piracy, and unregulated fishing, while strengthening compliance with international maritime standards.

Stakeholders welcomed the initiative, noting it will boost investor confidence in the maritime sector and support revenue generation through better enforcement of cabotage and other regulations.

The deployment aligns with broader government efforts to harness the blue economy and position Nigeria as a leading maritime nation in Africa. NIMASA assured continuous upgrades to the platform to maintain its effectiveness.
