NIGERIA’S OIL PRODUCTION DROPPED 4% IN JULY – NUPRC
Nigeria’s oil production fell by 4 per cent in July, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission.
The decline indicates a setback in the country’s efforts to sustain recent gains in crude oil output and consistently meet production targets.
Industry stakeholders said the drop could be linked to operational challenges, maintenance activities, security concerns, and other disruptions affecting production across oil-producing areas.
The development could put additional pressure on government revenue and foreign exchange earnings, given the significant role of crude oil exports in Nigeria’s economy.
The NUPRC has continued to work with oil producers and other industry operators to improve production efficiency and address challenges affecting output.
Analysts said sustaining higher production would require continued investment in oil infrastructure, improved security, and faster development of new and existing oil fields.
They also stressed the importance of reducing crude theft and pipeline vandalism, which have historically affected Nigeria’s production levels.
The decline comes after recent improvements in output had raised expectations that Nigeria could maintain stronger production and consistently meet its OPEC quota.
Industry experts said the government and operators would need to address the factors behind the July decline to prevent further production losses in the coming months.
They urged increased investment in technology, infrastructure, and field development while maintaining a stable regulatory environment to encourage investment.
The NUPRC is expected to continue monitoring production activities and working with operators to improve output.
Stakeholders said reversing the decline would be important for strengthening government revenue, improving foreign exchange inflows, and supporting Nigeria’s broader economic outlook.
