Public Accountability and Democratic Reforms Advocate, Ezenwa Nwagwu, has stated that Nigerians are too impatient for the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to treat any upcoming election as a learning experience.

Nwagwu made this remark on Thursday during an interview on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television.

He emphasized that the internal reforms within INEC should be comprehensive, particularly regarding the calibre of individuals appointed as Resident Electoral Commissioners.

His comment follows the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, from the North-Central region, as the new Chairman of the Commission.

Nwagwu further noted that the incoming INEC boss must fully understand the magnitude of the task ahead, especially with the forthcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Anambra and Osun states.

“What needs to happen now is to ensure that we have an INEC chairman who understands the challenges he is about to face, particularly as his appointment comes close to some state elections. There are no learning curves in INEC. Nigerians are in too much of a hurry for anyone to use an election as a learning curve,” he said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
