Fayemi Blasts Federal Government Over Poor Roads, Says Nigerians Are Struggling with Hunger and Poverty

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has voiced his frustration over the poor condition of federal roads in Ekiti and the growing economic hardship across the country, saying Nigerians are not happy with the current administration due to hunger and lack of money.

Fayemi made the remarks during a meeting with his political loyalists in Ekiti, a gathering widely seen as a strategic move to gauge his influence ahead of the 2027 elections.

Expressing his disappointment with the Tinubu-led Federal Government, Fayemi said it had failed to refund billions of naira spent by the Ekiti State government on road rehabilitation projects during his tenure. He noted that these funds could have been used to complete more roads and development projects in the state.

“We spent about ₦18 to ₦20 billion on the road that BAO (Governor Biodun Oyebanji) just completed, but the Federal Government hasn’t refunded a kobo,” Fayemi said.
“If they had refunded the money, the governor could have extended the road from Iyin to Aramoko.”

He also criticized the Federal Government’s neglect of key routes like Omuo – Ilasha – Ayedun – Oye, describing the roads as dangerous and deplorable.

Beyond the roads, Fayemi highlighted growing public dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the economy.

“Except we are deceiving ourselves, people are not happy with the Federal Government due to hunger and lack of money,” he stated frankly.

The former governor’s comments reflect a broader frustration among Nigerians grappling with rising food prices, inflation, and inadequate infrastructure. His remarks also appear to subtly position him as a potential political voice or candidate to watch as the country approaches another election cycle.
