NIGERIAN WOMAN ARRAIGNED FOR FALSELY ACCUSING HUSBAND OF DEFILING THEIR TWO DAUGHTERS
A 29-year-old woman, Chisom Okonkwo, has been arraigned before an Enugu Magistrate Court for allegedly falsely accusing her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, of sexually assaulting their two young daughters.
According to court documents filed by the Commissioner of Police, the incident reportedly took place in August 2024 at Adoration Junction, opposite Dan-Legal Hotel, in Emene, Enugu State.
The police alleged that Chisom publicly accused her husband of defiling their daughters, aged 2 and 5, a claim that led to his arrest and subjected him to public ridicule and emotional trauma.
Investigations, however, revealed that medical examinations found no evidence of sexual abuse, prompting the release of the husband.
The charge sheet states that Chisom’s actions violated Section 323, punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State (2004) — relating to defamation.
In a second count, she was also accused of providing false information to the police, contrary to Section 154(1)(a) & (b) of the same code.
Police sources said that on October 27, 2025, Chisom knowingly misled detectives at the State Intelligence Department (SID), Enugu, by insisting that her husband had molested their children, even after initial investigations proved otherwise.
As of press time, details of her plea, bail status, or next court date were yet to be made public.
