NIGERIAN TROOPS ELIMINATE TERRORISTS DURING OPERATION IN SOKOTO FOREST
Troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Battalion 7, working alongside the 8 Division Strike Team under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised terrorists during an operation in Kadam Forest.
The development was disclosed in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
Osoba explained that the operation followed credible intelligence and a decisive engagement with a notorious terrorist group linked to the Lakurawa network in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to the statement, intelligence reports indicated that more than 100 terrorists had assembled deep inside Kadam Forest to coordinate attacks and carry out kidnappings in nearby communities, with plans to move abducted victims to their hideouts.
Troops, however, acted swiftly and moved to intercept the group before their plans could be carried out.
A fierce gun battle followed. When the terrorists attempted to outflank the troops from the rear, the soldiers responded with superior firepower, successfully repelling the manoeuvre and maintaining control throughout the encounter.
At the end of the operation, three terrorists were killed, while several others were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds while fleeing the scene.
Troops also recovered a cache of weapons and equipment, including one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone.
