NIGERIAN NURSES TO BEGIN 7-DAY WARNING STRIKE OVER UNMET DEMANDS
Nigerian nurses under the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) have announced plans to begin a seven-day warning strike starting Tuesday, July 29, 2025, following the Federal Government’s failure to meet their demands.
The association said the strike action comes after a 15-day ultimatum issued to the government expired without any positive response. Their demands focus mainly on the review and improvement of allowances for health workers.
In a circular signed by NANNM’s 2nd National Vice President, Orolu Sesan, and Deputy General Secretary, Elder Otaru Daniel Shaibu, state council leaders have been instructed to mobilize all members for the industrial action.
The directive also asked state chapters to hold strategic meetings on Monday, July 28, to ensure full participation and coordination across the country.
NANNM made it clear that if the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare does not act on the association’s concerns, the warning strike will begin as scheduled and may escalate if necessary.
This development may lead to serious disruptions in healthcare services nationwide, as nurses play a critical role in both public and private hospitals. The public is advised to take note and prepare accordingly.
