Omah Lay Says Nigerian Music Scene Lacks Excitement, Promises to “Revive the Spirit”

Award-winning Afrobeats singer Omah Lay has stirred conversation online after declaring that the Nigerian music industry is becoming “boring.”

The “Soso” crooner made the remark on his Snapchat, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of Afrobeats and hinted at plans to re-energize the African sound.

“Una music industry is boring AF! Spirit is coming to f**k up the continent in a bit,” Omah Lay wrote.

The singer’s post has sparked mixed reactions among fans and fellow artists, with some agreeing that the Afrobeats sound has become repetitive, while others argue that the genre continues to thrive globally.

His comments come shortly after fellow Nigerian artiste Slimcase voiced similar concerns, saying Afrobeats stars were “killing the excitement” by releasing too much music too frequently.

According to Slimcase, the oversaturation of songs has made the genre predictable and less thrilling for listeners. He advised artists to release fewer singles and focus on building anticipation for their projects.

Omah Lay, known for his unique fusion of Afro-fusion, soul, and pop, appears ready to shake things up. Fans are now eager to see what he means by “Spirit,” which many believe could be the title of his next project aimed at redefining the sound of African music.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
