NIGERIAN MAN ARRESTED IN DELHI FOR ALLEGEDLY SCAMMING OVER 100 WOMEN VIA LANGUAGE APP
Police in Delhi have arrested a 29-year-old Nigerian man accused of duping more than 100 women across India through an elaborate online scam.
The suspect, identified as Stephane alias Dominic, was apprehended from his rented flat in Tilak Nagar on Monday, September 29. According to investigators, he posed as “Duck Young,” a Korean jewellery businessman based in the UK, targeting women through a language exchange app designed for practicing foreign languages.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said Dominic lured his victims by building personal and business-related trust. He would later claim to be stranded at immigration checkpoints with large cheques or documents. His accomplices allegedly posed as officials over the phone, pressuring victims to transfer money digitally.
The scam came to light after a woman named Anjali filed a complaint on September 24. She alleged that “Duck Young” tricked her into transferring Rs 48,500 after claiming he had been detained at Mumbai airport. When she refused to pay an additional Rs 2 lakh, he cut off all contact.
Police traced Dominic through call records, bank details, and social media activity. During the raid, they recovered his mobile phone, which contained the fake profile and chat records with more than 100 women.
Investigations also revealed that Dominic entered India in 2019 on a six-month tourist visa using an Ivory Coast passport, since Nigerians faced stricter visa restrictions at the time. After overstaying illegally, he turned to cyber fraud when his savings ran out.
Authorities say further investigations are underway to identify his associates and trace the full extent of his fraudulent network.
