Nigerian-American engineer and entrepreneur Yinka Ogunbiyi has demonstrated HaloBraid, a robotic device designed to help hairstylists complete individual braids up to five times faster.

The demonstration, shared on the company’s Instagram account on Wednesday, showed the device handling part of the braiding process.

According to HaloBraid, the stylist first sections the hair and begins each braid by hand. The braid is then fed into the device, which carries out the repetitive weaving before the stylist completes the finishing touches.

The company says the technology is intended to shorten appointments while maintaining the desired braid pattern.

“Each braid is started by hand, and finished by Halo, empowering stylists to double their business,” the company wrote.

HaloBraid is designed to assist professionals, with stylists remaining responsible for preparing the hair, starting the braids and checking the finished result.

The demonstration offers a look at how automation could support salon work, although the company’s claims about speed and increased business were not independently established in the supplied report.
