The Republican Mayor of Blanco City, Texas, Mike Arnold, has criticized Nigeria’s stance on foreign involvement in its internal security issues, saying it is contradictory for the country to seek financial aid from the United States while rejecting its comments on terrorism and insecurity.

Speaking on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme on Monday, Arnold expressed disbelief that a resource-rich nation like Nigeria continues to rely heavily on foreign assistance despite its vast economic potential.

“I don’t understand why a nation that is mineral rich as Nigeria has to go and beg for help to save her own people,” he said.

Arnold described the situation as “horrific”, especially for internally displaced persons (IDPs) who face harsh living conditions and sudden demolitions of their homes without warning.

“Displaced people are denied stability, their homes are bulldozed with no warning. It is horrific,” he added.

The Mayor further questioned Nigeria’s approach to international relations, emphasizing the inconsistency of rejecting U.S. commentary on terrorism while welcoming American financial support.

“You don’t want America to come here to speak on terrorism but you want their money. That does not make sense to me whatsoever,” Arnold said.

His remarks come amid ongoing debates about foreign influence, aid dependence, and accountability in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and insecurity.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
