NIGERIA TO HOST AFRIMA 2025 AS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SETS UP ORGANISING COMMITTEE
President Bola Tinubu has officially endorsed the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which is set to take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30, under the theme “Unstoppable Africa.”
This endorsement follows a request from the African Union Commission for Nigeria’s collaboration on hosting the next edition of the prestigious pan-African music awards.
In line with the President's approval, the Federal Government has established an inter-ministerial Local Organising Committee (LOC) to coordinate preparations. The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Members of the LOC include representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Nigerian Film Corporation, National Film and Video Censors Board, Federal Ministry of Interior, National Council for Arts and Culture, as well as delegates from AFRIMA and the African Union Commission.
During the inauguration, Minister Musawa emphasized that AFRIMA aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of harnessing the creative industry as a catalyst for economic growth, national development, and cultural transformation.
“This is more than just an awards show,” Musawa stated. “It is a major platform to create jobs, promote tourism, celebrate African talents, and share authentic African stories through music with a global audience. We look forward to working closely with the Lagos State Government, AFRIMA, and the African Union to host a world-class event.”
Mike Dada, President and Executive Producer of AFRIMA, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its swift and enthusiastic support.
“We are deeply thankful to President Tinubu for his visionary endorsement of AFRIMA 2025,” Dada said. “This support sends a powerful message that the Nigerian government recognizes the value of culture and the creative industries in fostering unity and prosperity across the continent.”
He also acknowledged the Lagos State Government for stepping up as the official host city and for its continued investment in the creative sector.
“With Nigeria’s longstanding reputation as a cultural and creative powerhouse, we are confident that AFRIMA 2025 will be a landmark celebration of African talent, artistry, and innovation,” Dada added.
