NIGERIA SECURES $6.2 MILLION WIN AGAINST UK TECH FIRM IN ARBITRATION
The Nigerian government has successfully defeated European Dynamics UK Ltd. in a €6.2 million arbitration case, a development confirmed on Sunday by Kamarudeen Ogundele, spokesperson for the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The dispute arose after the firm engaged in a disagreement with Nigeria’s Bureau of Public Procurement regarding a national e-procurement project.
According to the statement, “In the ruling, which is final and not subject to appeal, the tribunal dismissed the contractor’s claims in their entirety, relieving Nigeria of potential financial exposure estimated at over $6.2 million (approximately N9.3 billion) in claimed payments and damages.”
Nigeria’s legal representation was led by Johnson & Wilner LLP, a Nigerian business and technology law firm. Basil Udotai, Esq., Founding Partner, spearheaded the arbitration alongside the firm’s strategic partners and associates.
This victory adds to a string of legal successes for Nigeria in international disputes. In October last year, the UK Supreme Court directed Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID), an offshore company, to pay £44 million in legal costs to Nigeria. In 2023, Nigeria had also secured an $11 billion win in a P&ID case in London.
