NIGERIA RECORDS $947M IN REMITTANCES IN JULY
Nigeria recorded a significant increase in diaspora remittances in July, with inflows reaching a record $947 million, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The figure represents a major rise in funds sent home by Nigerians living and working abroad, highlighting the continued importance of remittances to the country’s foreign exchange supply and household incomes.
The increase comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and the CBN to improve the transparency and efficiency of the remittance market and encourage more inflows through official channels.
Diaspora remittances remain an important source of foreign exchange for Nigeria, supporting families and helping recipients meet expenses such as education, healthcare, housing and other household needs.
The stronger inflow also comes as Nigeria continues to face pressure on its foreign exchange market, making increased dollar inflows important for improving liquidity.
The CBN has introduced several measures aimed at strengthening the remittance ecosystem and ensuring that international money transfers enter the country through formal channels.
The latest figures suggest that Nigerians abroad continue to play an important role in supporting the domestic economy through money sent to relatives and other beneficiaries.
Economists have repeatedly highlighted the need to attract more remittances through official channels, arguing that increased inflows could support foreign exchange stability and strengthen Nigeria’s external position.
The July figure therefore represents a positive development for the country’s foreign exchange market and broader economy.
