NIGERIA POLICE RECOVER TWO VEHICLES STOLEN FROM THE NETHERLANDS
The Nigeria Police have recovered two vehicles — a 2020 Toyota C-HR and a 2019 Toyota RAV4 — that were stolen in the Netherlands and illegally imported into the country.
The recovery was carried out by officers of the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, in collaboration with Interpol NCB The Hague, with the vehicles traced to locations in Lagos and Akwa Ibom States.
According to police reports, the cars were originally stolen from Amsterdam and Midden-Nederland before being shipped to Lagos through the Port of Antwerp in Belgium in late 2023.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has since granted a final forfeiture order in favour of the Dutch government, represented by the vehicles’ insurance company. This order authorizes the lawful return of the recovered vehicles to the Netherlands.
Following the court’s decision, the Interpol NCB Abuja team officially handed over the vehicles to representatives of the insurance company and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the Interpol operatives for their professionalism and effective coordination throughout the recovery process.
