The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria has called on the government and other stakeholders to unlock the potential of Nigerian youths to achieve sustainable economic growth.

The institute said Nigeria’s young population represents a major economic opportunity that can contribute significantly to productivity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation if given the right support.

CIBN stressed the importance of investing in education, digital skills, vocational training, and access to finance to prepare young Nigerians for opportunities in the changing economy.

It noted that stronger support for youth-led businesses could also encourage entrepreneurship and help create employment for others.

The institute urged government agencies, financial institutions, businesses, and educational institutions to work together to develop programmes that provide young people with the skills and resources needed to succeed.

Stakeholders said improving access to affordable financing remains important for young entrepreneurs, many of whom struggle to secure capital to expand their businesses.

They also called for policies that improve the business environment and encourage innovation and private-sector investment.

CIBN said empowering young Nigerians would not only reduce unemployment but also strengthen the country’s productive capacity and expand its economic base.

The institute urged policymakers to adopt long-term strategies that place youth development at the centre of Nigeria’s economic planning.

It said effectively harnessing the energy, skills, and creativity of young Nigerians would be critical to building an inclusive and sustainable economy.
