NIGERIA IS NOT ONE NATION – FAPOHUNDA SPEAKS ON UNITY, GOVERNANCE
Akin Fapohunda, Secretary and member of the Patriot, has argued that Nigeria is not truly one nation and that efforts to force unity have always been flawed.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, Fapohunda stressed that Nigeria is a collection of nations under one flag, not a single, united entity.
“All we have been doing since 1999 is pretending that we are united, strong, and rich. The reality is that we are poor, divided, and heavily dependent on loans. Even the crude oil we sell now is just to pay debts,” he said.
He also criticized the presidential system of government, describing it as unaccountable and detached from the people. According to him, a parliamentary system would ensure greater accountability since ministers and prime ministers emerge directly from elected parliament members.
“In the parliamentary system, leaders are answerable to the people every week. But in our current system, the president stays in the villa, travels without handing over, and faces no real checks,” he added.
