NIGERIA, BENIN, CAMEROON DEEPEN BORDER COOPERATION TO IMPROVE SECURITY AND TRADE

Nigeria, Benin, and Cameroon have strengthened cooperation along their shared borders as part of efforts to improve security, enhance trade, and address cross-border challenges.

Officials from the three countries said closer collaboration among border agencies will help tackle issues such as smuggling, illegal migration, human trafficking, and other forms of transnational crime.

The countries are also seeking to improve the movement of legitimate goods and people across borders by promoting better coordination among customs, immigration, and security authorities.

Experts said stronger regional cooperation is essential for boosting economic activities within West and Central Africa, especially as countries work toward deeper integration under continental trade initiatives.

They noted that efficient border management can support businesses, reduce trade barriers, and create safer environments for communities living around border areas.

The governments reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular dialogue and joint security efforts to promote peace, stability, and economic growth across the region.
