The 2026 All Progressives Congress Consensus Aspirants Forum in Niger State has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to seek second terms in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, during a visit by members of the forum to the Niger State Government House in Minna. The development was contained in a statement signed by Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bago.

The delegation, led by the forum’s Chairman, Abdul Abdulsalam, said its decision followed an assessment of the policies, programmes and leadership direction of the APC at both the federal and state levels.

Abdulsalam said the forum was satisfied with the direction of the party and the performance of Governor Bago since assuming office. He maintained that the governor had demonstrated the leadership capacity needed to continue steering the affairs of Niger State and therefore deserved another term.

The forum’s endorsement also extended to President Tinubu, signalling its backing for his bid to remain in office for another four-year term after the 2027 presidential election.

The development adds to the growing political activities within the APC ahead of the next general elections, as party members and political groups continue to declare their positions on candidates seeking continuity at both the federal and state levels.

Governor Bago has already secured the APC’s governorship ticket for a second term after emerging through an affirmation process in May 2026. Delegates from the party’s 277 wards endorsed him as the sole candidate for the 2027 Niger State governorship election.

The latest endorsement by the consensus aspirants therefore further strengthens the governor’s position within the party as he prepares to defend his mandate in the 2027 election.

Bago had previously urged APC members in Niger State to maintain unity, particularly after the party’s primary elections. During a meeting with unsuccessful aspirants in July, the governor appealed to party members to remain committed to the APC and work together towards the party’s future electoral success.

The governor also assured party members that his administration would continue to provide opportunities for members to contribute to governance and the development of the state.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the latest declaration is expected to add momentum to the APC’s mobilisation efforts in Niger State and reinforce the party’s campaign for continuity at both the state and federal levels.
