NIDCOM HONORS UK-BASED NIGERIAN ON INTERNATIONAL APPOINTMENT
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated a UK‑based Nigerian for achieving a landmark international appointment, describing the milestone as a proud moment for Nigeria and its global community.
NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur‑Rahman Balogun, said the commission is delighted to celebrate the appointment of Thelma Ekiyor‑Solanke as the first Black International Chief Executive Officer of Women for Women International, a prominent global organisation focused on supporting women affected by conflict and poverty.
In a statement on Friday, NiDCOM Chairman/CEO Abike Dabiri‑Erewa described Ekiyor‑Solanke’s appointment as a “proud and defining moment” that highlights the resilience, brilliance, and global impact of Nigerians abroad. She noted that the achievement not only breaks barriers but also serves as an inspiration for a new generation of Nigerian women and aspiring leaders.
Ekiyor‑Solanke’s leadership role at Women for Women International is seen as a significant milestone in diaspora representation, reflecting the growing influence of Nigerian professionals on the world stage. NiDCOM emphasised that this recognition reinforces the commission’s mandate to engage with Nigerians overseas and spotlight their contributions to global progress.
The commission encouraged more Nigerian diaspora professionals to pursue global leadership opportunities and to remain connected to national development initiatives through diaspora platforms and partnerships.
