NGX ADDS ₦192 BILLION IN VALUE DESPITE WIDER MARKET DECLINE
The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) recorded a ₦192 billion increase in market capitalisation despite broader losses across the equities market, reflecting gains in select heavyweight stocks.
Market analysts said the positive performance was driven by renewed investor interest in a number of large-cap companies, which helped offset declines recorded in other sectors of the market.
Although the broader market closed lower as more stocks recorded losses than gains, the appreciation in the value of key listed companies lifted the overall market capitalisation.
Experts noted that the mixed trading session highlights continued investor caution amid prevailing macroeconomic conditions, including inflation, interest rate movements, and exchange rate dynamics.
They added that improved corporate earnings, stable economic policies, and sustained foreign investor participation will be critical to supporting market performance in the coming months.
The development underscores the resilience of Nigeria’s capital market, with stakeholders expressing optimism that stronger investor confidence and positive corporate results will sustain long-term market growth.
