NFIU RECORDS 28.1M TRANSACTIONS LINKED TO PUBLIC OFFICIALS, ASSOCIATES
The Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit has reported that public officials and their associates were involved in about 28.1 million financial transactions in 2025.
The disclosure highlights the scale of financial activities involving politically exposed persons and individuals connected to them during the year.
The NFIU, which is responsible for receiving and analysing financial intelligence to combat money laundering and other financial crimes, monitors transactions that could raise concerns about illicit financial activities.
The agency said the data forms part of its efforts to strengthen financial intelligence and identify transactions that may require further investigation by relevant law enforcement authorities.
Financial transactions involving public officials are subject to increased scrutiny because of the potential risks associated with corruption, money laundering and the misuse of public resources.
The NFIU’s monitoring activities are designed to help identify suspicious patterns and provide relevant information to agencies responsible for investigating financial crimes.
The latest disclosure comes amid renewed calls for greater transparency and accountability in public financial management.
Authorities have continued to strengthen Nigeria’s financial intelligence framework as the country works to tackle money laundering, illicit financial flows and other economic crimes.
The NFIU said its analysis of financial transactions remains important in supporting law enforcement agencies and protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s financial system.
The agency is expected to continue monitoring financial activities involving politically exposed persons and their associates as part of broader efforts to prevent and detect financial crimes.
