The Nigeria Customs Service, Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command, has appointed Deputy Comptroller Haliru Isah Abdullahi as its new Acting Customs Area Controller.

Abdullahi assumed office on September 25, 2026, following a handover ceremony at the command’s headquarters in Sokoto. He took over from Deputy Comptroller Babagana Shettima, who handed over the command’s flag and official documents.

The new acting controller thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the service’s management for the confidence placed in him.

Abdullahi also commended his predecessor for his leadership and pledged to build on the achievements recorded under Shettima.

He urged officers and personnel to maintain discipline, professionalism and integrity in carrying out their responsibilities.

The acting controller identified border security, trade facilitation and revenue collection as key areas of focus. He called on personnel to remain committed to the statutory duties of the Customs Service and contribute to national economic development.

Earlier, Shettima urged officers and other personnel of the command to support Abdullahi in carrying out his responsibilities.

He said cooperation among personnel was necessary for the command to effectively deliver on its mandates, including revenue generation, facilitating legitimate trade and securing Nigeria’s borders.
