NEW COMPACTOR TRUCKS TO BOOST LAWMA’S EFFICIENCY – GBADEGESIN

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has taken delivery of new compactor trucks to enhance its operational efficiency and improve waste collection services across the state.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Akinola Gbadegesin, disclosed this on Friday during an inspection of the newly acquired fleet at the authority’s headquarters. He said the addition of the modern compactor trucks will significantly increase the volume of waste that can be collected daily and reduce response time to sanitation requests.

“These new trucks are a major boost to our operations. They are more efficient, environmentally friendly, and capable of handling larger volumes of waste. This will help us serve the people of Lagos better and keep the state cleaner,” Gbadegesin stated.

The new fleet includes vehicles with advanced compaction technology and GPS tracking systems to improve route optimisation and accountability. LAWMA plans to deploy the trucks to high-density areas and black spots where waste accumulation has been a persistent challenge.

The state government has been investing heavily in waste management infrastructure as part of its efforts to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos. The acquisition of the new trucks is part of a broader strategy that includes public sensitisation, enforcement of environmental laws, and private sector participation.

Residents and environmental groups have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the improved capacity will lead to more regular waste collection and a reduction in illegal dumping. Some, however, called for better community engagement to ensure the success of the initiative.

Gbadegesin assured the public that LAWMA will continue to invest in modern equipment and technology to meet the growing waste management needs of the state. He also urged residents to support the authority by disposing of waste properly and paying their waste collection fees promptly.
