The Nigeria Economic Summit Group has called on the Federal Government to create about three million jobs every year to address the country’s growing unemployment and underemployment challenges.

The NESG said Nigeria’s expanding population requires a stronger focus on job creation, particularly for young people entering the labour market.

The group urged the government to implement policies that would encourage private sector investment, expand businesses and create an environment where companies can employ more workers.

It also highlighted the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, which provide a significant share of employment opportunities across the country.

According to the NESG, improving infrastructure, access to finance, skills development and the overall business environment would help businesses expand and create more jobs.

The group stressed that job creation should remain a major priority in Nigeria’s economic planning, particularly as young Nigerians continue to seek sustainable sources of income.

It also called for stronger collaboration between the government and private sector to develop practical solutions to the employment challenge.

The NESG said creating more productive jobs would not only improve household incomes but also reduce poverty and strengthen economic growth.

It urged the government to ensure that economic policies translate into real opportunities for Nigerians rather than focusing solely on macroeconomic indicators.

The group maintained that sustained investment in productive sectors of the economy would be critical to achieving the required level of job creation.

It encouraged policymakers to adopt long-term strategies that would support businesses, attract investment and equip Nigerians with skills needed in the changing labour market.
