NEPAL FLOOD DEATH TOLL RISES TO 1,222

The death toll from devastating flash floods in Nepal has risen to 1,222, while 4,875 people remain missing as rescue teams continue searching affected areas.

The disaster struck last week after a glacier collapse triggered a massive surge of water, rock and debris across parts of Nepal. Several communities were badly affected, with homes, roads and other infrastructure damaged.

According to Nepal Police and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, bodies have been recovered across eight districts. Chitawan recorded the highest number of deaths with 348, followed by Nawalparasi East with 218 and Nawalparasi West with 208.

Rescue teams are still working through debris and reaching isolated communities in search of missing people. Operations have been complicated by difficult terrain and damage to roads and other infrastructure.

Authorities have continued efforts to identify recovered bodies and reunite families with missing relatives.

The disaster has also affected foreign nationals, including tourists and pilgrims who were in the region when the floods occurred.

Nepalese authorities have appealed for continued assistance as rescue and recovery operations continue, while efforts are also being made to provide relief to communities affected by the floods.

The scale of the disaster has raised renewed concerns about the vulnerability of Himalayan communities to extreme weather and climate-related risks.
