NEMA ASSESSES SOKOTO STORM, FLOOD DAMAGE AFTER FOUR KILLED

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced an on-the-spot assessment of damages caused by a devastating storm and flood that killed four people in Sokoto State.

The incident, which occurred over the weekend, affected several communities in the state capital and surrounding local government areas, destroying homes, farmlands, and infrastructure.

NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who led the assessment team on Tuesday, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of government support.

“We are here to evaluate the extent of damage and provide immediate relief materials to the affected victims. No one will be left behind,” she stated.

Preliminary reports indicate that heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds uprooted trees, ripped off roofs, and flooded residential areas, displacing dozens of families.

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has directed relevant agencies to work closely with NEMA to ensure swift distribution of relief materials, including food, clothing, and temporary shelter.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant as more rain is predicted in the coming days.
