NELFUND BOSS REJECTS CLAIMS OF FINANCIAL MISAPPROPRIATION
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Akintunde Sawyer, has rejected allegations of financial misappropriation against the agency, describing the claims as unfounded.
Sawyer said NELFUND operates within established financial and administrative procedures and remains committed to transparency in the management of funds allocated to support Nigerian students.
The controversy comes as the education loan scheme continues to attract growing public attention following the expansion of its coverage to students across tertiary institutions in the country.
Responding to the allegations, the NELFUND boss said the agency maintains proper records of its financial activities and that funds provided for student support are disbursed through established processes.
He stressed that the organisation is focused on fulfilling its mandate of making tertiary education more accessible to Nigerians who may struggle to meet the cost of their studies.
Sawyer also urged members of the public to verify information about the agency before drawing conclusions from unsubstantiated claims.
NELFUND has continued to receive applications from students seeking financial assistance under the Federal Government’s student loan programme, which provides support for institutional charges and upkeep.
The agency’s management said it would continue to strengthen accountability and transparency as the programme expands, while ensuring that eligible students receive the financial support they are entitled to.
