The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with more than 80% of candidates achieving five credits or higher.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Prof. Dantani Wushishi, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State. Candidates can check their results on the NECO official website using their examination registration numbers.

This year, 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, with 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.56%). A total of 95,160 candidates sat for the exams across 16 subjects.

In the English Language, 73,167 candidates out of 93,425 (78.32%) scored credit and above. In Mathematics, 85,256 out of 93,330 candidates (91.35%) achieved credit or higher. Overall, 68,166 candidates (71.63%) scored five credits, including English and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26%) scored five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

On the issue of malpractice, 9,016 candidates were found guilty of various forms of examination misconduct, representing a 31.7% increase from last year’s 6,160 cases. Additionally, five supervisors, from FCT, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo States were recommended for blacklisting for aiding malpractice, while four examination centres, two in Niger and one each in Yobe and Kano, were recommended for de-recognition.

The SSCE External is designed primarily for private candidates seeking certification outside the regular school system, or for those aiming to improve their grades. NECO continues to provide this opportunity to ensure educational inclusivity and access for all learners.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
