NDPHC DEPLOYS AI TO IMPROVE POWER PLANT MANAGEMENT

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has embraced artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the efficiency and reliability of its power plants as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges.

The company has integrated AI-driven predictive maintenance tools, real-time monitoring systems, and data analytics across select facilities to optimise operations, reduce downtime, and improve overall plant performance. NDPHC Managing Director, Mr. Chinedu Madu, described the deployment as a game-changer for the nation’s power sector.

“AI enables us to anticipate failures before they occur, minimise operational costs, and ensure more consistent power supply to Nigerians,” Madu said during a technical briefing. The initiative is expected to extend the lifespan of critical equipment and enhance safety standards.

The move aligns with broader government strategies to modernise the electricity value chain through technology adoption. Industry experts have applauded NDPHC’s innovation, noting its potential to serve as a model for other operators in the sector.

NDPHC plans to scale the AI deployment across more assets in the coming months, supporting the country’s target of increased generation capacity and reliable electricity supply.
