NDPC RECORDS 2,000 CYBERATTACKS IN ONE WEEK
The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has reported a sharp rise in cyber threats, recording about 2,000 cyberattacks within a single week across digital platforms in Nigeria.
Officials said the incidents targeted both public and private systems, highlighting the growing scale and sophistication of cybercrime in the country.
The commission noted that most of the attacks involved phishing attempts, data breaches, and unauthorized access attempts aimed at exploiting weak security systems.
According to the NDPC, the surge underscores the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity measures, improved digital literacy, and stricter compliance with data protection regulations.
Authorities are working with security agencies and technology partners to track malicious actors and strengthen national cyber defence systems.
The commission also urged organisations to regularly update their security infrastructure and ensure proper protection of sensitive user data.
Experts warn that as Nigeria’s digital economy expands, cyber risks are likely to increase without coordinated prevention strategies.
