NDLEA NABS INDIAN BUSINESSMAN, THREE NIGERIANS OVER N3.9BN TRAMADOL SEIZED AT LAGOS AIRPORT
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an Indian businessman, Gupta Ravi Kumar, along with three Nigerians — Ogunlana Noah Olanrewaju, Olushola Idrees Kayode, and Bakare Korede Muheeb — in connection with the interception of 2,248,000 tramadol pills (200mg/225mg) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the NDLEA, the consignment, valued at over N3.9 billion on the street, was imported from Delhi, India, and concealed in 114 cartons labeled as multi-vitamins. It arrived on Monday, September 8, 2025, via an Ethiopian Airline flight.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said officers had placed the cargo under surveillance before swooping on a clearing agent and two drivers attempting to move the consignment in two trucks on Thursday, September 11. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of Kumar as he tried to take delivery of the drugs.
In a separate incident, NDLEA operatives at the Terminal 2 departure gate of the airport intercepted a passenger, Onyeganochi Stanley Ifeanyi, traveling to Doha on Qatar Airways on Sunday, September 7. A search of his luggage revealed 900 grams of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, hidden inside crayfish. Onyeganochi, a first-time traveler, claimed the bag was handed to him by a Qatar-based Nigerian, Ohadiegwu Anthony Uchenna, who was later arrested at the airport. A search of Uchenna’s hotel room in Ajao Estate uncovered another 200 grams of the same substance.
At Tincan Port, Lagos, NDLEA operatives recovered 161 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 81.7kg and 1.2kg of hashish oil from a 40ft container loaded with used vehicles and spare parts from Montreal, Canada, on Tuesday, September 9. Two suspects, John Ochigbo (53) and Okeke Kingsley (26), were arrested. Another shipment of 65kg Canadian Loud was tracked from the port to Third Mainland Bridge, where officers intercepted a Toyota Sienna and arrested the driver, Abubakar Ibrahim (42), on September 11.
Two more seizures were recorded at courier companies in Lagos: methamphetamine concealed in picture frames weighing 6 grams and Loud hidden in video players weighing 1.1kg. The meth was destined for Gabon, while the cannabis was bound for the UAE.
In Ikorodu, Lagos, NDLEA operatives raided a skuchies factory on September 11, recovering 6,029 bottles of the psychoactive drink and 4,232kg of cannabis. The factory manager, Joy Awosika, was arrested. That same day in Mushin, Lagos, another suspect, Akeem Oriola, was caught with 26kg of skunk.
Elsewhere in Abuja, a dispatch rider, Godsplan Vincent (29), was arrested during a stop-and-search operation in Utako with 50.7 grams of cocaine and 66 grams of Loud. In Oyo State, three women — Faidat Azeez (25), Alanu Fatimoh (40), and Mojeed Taiwo (25) — were arrested with 17kg of skunk in Lagbondoko and Akitan areas of Oyo town.
NDLEA also reported the seizure of 100,000 tramadol pills from Musa Shuaibu (38) along the Zaria–Kano road on September 8. In Kano, 196 litres of Akuskura were recovered from Abubakar Adamu (35), while Basiru Umar (18) was caught with 34.1kg of skunk, 493 tubes of rubber solution, and 25 litres of “suck and die.”
In Anambra, a couple, Nzube Onyedika (41) and Ebele Onyedika (42), were arrested at Obosi with 13.9kg of methamphetamine and 5.3kg of skunk. Another suspect, Nnamchi Tochukwu (36), was found in possession of meth, tramadol, swinol, heroin, and skunk.
In Yobe, Mohammed Auwal was apprehended after 22.1kg of cannabis was recovered from his home in Potiskum. In Ogun State, three traffickers — Kunyadi Kunle Ogbungbun (24), Olalekan Adewale (20), and Sanya Joshua (22) — were arrested with 394kg of skunk during a joint operation in Imeko. Three motorcycles used for moving the drugs were also seized.
In Edo State, NDLEA destroyed a cannabis farm spanning 6.7 hectares in Ugbogyi forest, Ovia South West LGA, recovering 16,966.633kg of skunk and 1,176kg of processed cannabis. Four suspects — Ebenezer Ewang, Oshore John, Emmanuel Monday, and David Sunday — were arrested.
Commending officers across MMIA, Tincan, Lagos, Oyo, Edo, Kano, FCT, Anambra, Yobe, and Ogun Commands, NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) urged personnel nationwide to sustain the agency’s balanced and coordinated approach in tackling drug trafficking.
