Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), working with Nigeria Customs Service, have intercepted a large shipment of “Canadian Loud” valued at ₦10.4 billion at one of the Lagos seaports.

The consignment, a high-grade strain of cannabis, was discovered during routine checks on imported containers. Officials described it as a significant seizure that disrupts attempts to bring hard drugs into the country through the port.

NDLEA officials said the drug was cleverly concealed inside goods coming into Nigeria. Canadian Loud is known for its high potency and is popular in the illicit drug market, often attracting high street values.

This interception adds to recent efforts by the NDLEA and Customs to tighten control at Nigeria’s entry points. In the past months, the two agencies have recorded several big seizures of cannabis and other substances at Apapa and Tincan ports in Lagos.

The NDLEA has handed over the seized substance for further investigation. Officers are working to trace the owners and arrest those involved in the smuggling attempt.

Drug trafficking through the ports remains a major challenge for Nigeria. Smugglers continue to use different methods to hide consignments in vehicles, containers, and everyday goods. Authorities say joint operations like this help reduce the flow of drugs into the local market and protect young people from substance abuse.

The agency urged importers and shipping agents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. It also warned that anyone caught bringing in illicit drugs will face the full weight of the law.

This latest bust shows the ongoing commitment of NDLEA and Customs to fighting drug trafficking and keeping Nigeria’s borders secure. Investigations into the seizure are still ongoing.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
