NDLEA DESTROYS 51 HECTARES OF CANNABIS, ARRESTS 281 SUSPECTS IN EKITI
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 51 hectares of cannabis plantations and arrested 281 suspects during a series of anti-drug operations across Ekiti State.
According to the agency, the operation forms part of its ongoing campaign to combat the cultivation, trafficking, and abuse of illicit drugs nationwide.
NDLEA officials said the destroyed cannabis farms were identified through intelligence-led operations carried out in collaboration with other security agencies.
The agency noted that the arrests were made during coordinated raids targeting suspected drug cultivation sites, trafficking routes, and other criminal hideouts.
Authorities disclosed that investigations are ongoing to identify additional individuals connected to the illegal drug network and strengthen prosecution efforts.
The NDLEA reiterated that illicit drug cultivation and trafficking pose serious threats to public health, security, and community development.
Security experts say sustained enforcement operations are essential to disrupting drug supply chains and reducing the influence of criminal networks.
The agency also called on members of the public to continue providing credible information that can assist law enforcement in tackling drug-related crimes.
Community leaders welcomed the operation, urging continued collaboration between residents and security agencies to curb illicit drug activities.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting communities by intensifying efforts against drug production, trafficking, and abuse across the country.
