NDLEA BREAKS UP MAJOR METH NETWORK, ARRESTS WANTED MEXICAN DRUG SUSPECT
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has dismantled a suspected international methamphetamine trafficking network operating across three states, with the arrest of a wanted Mexican national believed to be connected to the criminal operation. The breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations by NDLEA officers targeting the production and distribution of illicit drugs in different parts of the country.
The Mexican suspect was among several individuals arrested during coordinated raids carried out by the agency. NDLEA operatives also recovered quantities of methamphetamine and other exhibits linked to the suspected network, with investigators working to determine the full structure of the operation and establish the roles allegedly played by those arrested.
The agency said the operation covered locations in three states and was based on intelligence gathered on the activities of the suspected drug syndicate. The arrests are expected to assist investigators in tracing the supply chain, identifying other members of the network and determining whether the operation had links to international drug trafficking organisations.
The arrest of the Mexican national is particularly significant because of the international dimension of the investigation. NDLEA has continued to strengthen cooperation and intelligence gathering aimed at disrupting transnational drug networks that use Nigeria as a production, transit or distribution point. The agency is also expected to subject the recovered substances to forensic analysis as investigations continue.
NDLEA officials said the operation demonstrates the agency’s continued efforts to dismantle drug trafficking organisations and prevent illicit substances from reaching communities. Those arrested are expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution, while operatives continue efforts to locate other suspects believed to be connected to the network.
