NDDC UNVEILS $500M FUND TO BOOST AGRICULTURE IN NIGER DELTA

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched a $500 million agricultural development fund aimed at transforming farming activities and improving food security in the region.

The fund will support various initiatives, including modern farming techniques, provision of improved seedlings, irrigation infrastructure, and access to markets for farmers. NDDC officials described the programme as a strategic intervention to diversify the regional economy and reduce youth restiveness through agribusiness opportunities.

The Commission emphasised that the fund would prioritise women and youth farmers, with a focus on sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices. Stakeholders welcomed the initiative, noting that it aligns with broader efforts to address food insecurity and create economic alternatives to oil dependency in the Niger Delta.

Farmers’ associations expressed optimism that the programme would enhance productivity and improve livelihoods across the nine states covered by the NDDC. The Commission assured transparency in the disbursement process and pledged continuous monitoring to ensure effective utilisation of the funds.

The launch of the agricultural fund is expected to stimulate growth in the sector and contribute to the overall development of the region.
