NDDC HONOURS LATE OMPADEC CHAIRMAN WITH BUILDING NAMING
The Niger Delta Development Commission has honoured the late pioneer Chairman of the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission, Chief Albert Horsfall, by naming an ancillary building at its headquarters in Port Harcourt after him.
The NDDC Governing Board Chairman, Chiedu Ebie, announced the decision during a condolence register signing ceremony held at the commission’s headquarters on Friday. He described Horsfall as a patriotic Nigerian who made significant contributions to the development of the Niger Delta.
Ebie also directed that the NDDC flags at its headquarters, offices across the nine Niger Delta states and its Abuja liaison office be flown at half-mast in honour of the former OMPADEC chairman.
He said five panels that investigated Horsfall’s activities following the dissolution of OMPADEC cleared him of corruption allegations.
The NDDC Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, said the gesture reflected the commission’s decision to recognise former officials who contributed to its development.
Ogbuku added that the commission planned to begin a tree-planting initiative in honour of former officials, with the trees bearing their names.
Former NDDC Managing Director Timi Alaibe also praised the initiative and described Horsfall as a patriotic Nigerian committed to the development of the Niger Delta.
Horsfall’s son, Sekropribo, thanked the NDDC leadership for recognising his father’s contributions and preserving his legacy.
