NDC BURIES MEMBER SHOT DEAD IN ENUGU, DEMANDS FULL JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE
Slain party activist Ifeanyi Christopher Nwolie laid to rest in Udi LGA as political figures and party leadership condemn deadly campaign attacks ahead of upcoming elections
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has laid to rest its 43-year-old party member, Ifeanyi Christopher Nwolie, who succumbed to gunshot injuries following a violent attack by suspected political thugs in Enugu State.
Nwolie was interred in his hometown of Affa in Udi Local Government Area amid heavy mourning from family members, community leaders, and political allies. The deceased sustained mortal wounds during an armed assault launched against NDC supporters during the party’s campaign activities and state secretariat gathering in Enugu.
Attending the funeral ceremony, prominent political figures, including Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, paid tribute to the late activist and pledged support to the deceased's family, while strongly condemning the rising tide of political violence and intimidation targeting opposition parties across the state. Obi urged political actors across party lines to reject violence, ethnic division, and bigotry ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an official statement released following the interment, the leadership of the NDC reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for Nwolie and other party members injured during political clashes in the state. The party called on the Inspector-General of Police and security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation to ensure all perpetrators and sponsors of the attack are arrested and prosecuted under the law
