NCAA: KWAM 1’S FLIGHT BAN STAYS UNTIL INVESTIGATION ENDS
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that Fuji legend, Wasiu Ayinde, better known as KWAM 1, will remain on the no-fly list indefinitely as investigations into his recent flight incident continue.
Initially, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, had ordered a six-month travel ban on the musician following an August 7 incident, warning all domestic and international airlines to comply or risk losing their operating licences.
However, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimugu, has now clarified that there is no fixed timeline for the restriction. “It is no longer a six-month issue. The ban will stay until investigations are concluded,” Achimugu said in an interview with TVC.
Preliminary reports indicate that KWAM 1 passed through airport scanners and entered the VIP lounge, where he allegedly picked up a bottle of water. Upon secondary screening before boarding, security officials flagged the liquid. Despite being told he could not board with it, he reportedly attempted to proceed towards the aircraft.
Security personnel accompanied him to the foot of the plane, where the pilot was called. While trying to show the water was harmless, KWAM 1 allegedly splashed it—some of it landing on the pilot. The pilot then returned to the cockpit and closed the aircraft door.
Achimugu stressed that these details are based on initial findings, and final judgment will be made only after a full probe. The matter has been referred to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to ensure transparency.
The case continues to draw public attention, with many awaiting the outcome of the investigation that could determine when KWAM 1 returns to the skies.
