The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State, describing the violence as “gruesome” and deeply troubling.

In a statement, NBA President Afam Osigwe said the attack, which occurred on Palm Sunday, underscores the worsening insecurity across the country. He noted that the incident was particularly painful as it took place on a sacred day meant for prayer and reflection.

The association warned that recurring attacks without accountability are fostering a culture of impunity and eroding public confidence in the government’s ability to protect lives.

It called on security agencies to urgently identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible, while urging both federal and state governments to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.

The NBA also stressed the need for improved intelligence gathering and proactive security measures to prevent further attacks.

Citing the constitutional right to life, the association emphasised that protecting citizens remains the primary responsibility of government, warning that failure to do so threatens national unity and the rule of law.

The body extended condolences to the families of victims and expressed solidarity with residents affected by the violence, which Governor Caleb Mutfwang confirmed claimed 28 lives.
