No Mass Rape at FULafia: Police Dismiss Viral Claims, Confirm Robbery Incident

The Nasarawa State Police Command has firmly debunked disturbing reports circulating online that over 30 female students of the Federal University, Lafia (FULafia) were raped during a security breach.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Police spokesperson DSP Ramhan Nansel described the allegations as “completely false,” adding that thorough investigations revealed no evidence to support the claims.

“There is no record or credible testimony indicating that bandits entered the university and raped over 30 female students,” Nansel said.

“Our inquiries with school officials and students contradict that narrative entirely.”

The police confirmed that they reached out to the university’s Chief Security Officer, Information Officer, and several students. All parties denied that any such incident occurred, and no reports of sexual assault were ever filed.

“If such a grave incident had happened, it would not have been kept quiet. The students or university management would have raised the alarm,” Nansel emphasized.

However, the Command acknowledged that a robbery did take place on July 27 in the student village area. During the robbery, a female student identified as Jennifer had her mobile phone, power bank, and handbag stolen. A male student also sustained injuries while trying to escape the scene.

“There was indeed a case of robbery, not sexual assault,” Nansel clarified.

“No rape was reported, and we found no evidence suggesting otherwise. The viral claims are not only false but dangerously misleading.”

Nansel urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified stories that could instill fear or panic among residents and students. He reassured the community of the police’s continued commitment to maintaining safety and order in and around the university.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
