NASARAWA PDP REJECTS COALITION TALKS, SAYS PARTY IS STRONG ENOUGH FOR ALL MEMBERS
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has firmly rejected any plans to form a coalition with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting the party is large and united enough to cater to all interests.
In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Mallam Hamza Ibrahim, the PDP made it clear that it wants nothing to do with recent alliance discussions involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political groups.
“The state chapter of the PDP vehemently distances itself from the ADA/ADC coalition,” the statement read. “We call on our respected stakeholders, loyal members, and indeed all citizens who value the progress of our party and state to avoid attending any coalition meetings.”
According to Ibrahim, the PDP remains focused on rebuilding and strengthening its internal structures to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
“Our umbrella is big enough to accommodate all interests, serve as a platform for reforms, and provide credible alternative leadership for Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
However, despite these reassurances, reports indicate that hundreds of PDP members — including some influential figures — have resigned and crossed over to the ADC-led coalition. This points to simmering internal discontent that could affect the party’s cohesion in the coming months.
In response, the PDP said it will soon hold an expanded State Executive Committee meeting to address ongoing issues, review progress, and map out its strategy ahead of the elections.
Political watchers believe the PDP’s next moves will be critical in determining whether it can maintain its strength and unity as the 2027 race heats up.
