Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has criticised political leaders who present routine government duties such as salary payment and road construction as achievements.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during the 59th inaugural lecture of Nasarawa State University Keffi, where he spoke on the need for more innovative and impact-driven governance.

Sule said paying salaries, building roads, and providing basic infrastructure are core responsibilities of government and should not be celebrated as extraordinary accomplishments.

He argued that true leadership should focus on “thinking outside the box” to deliver solutions that directly improve citizens’ lives.

The governor cited his administration’s approach to rebuilding a fire-prone market in the state, saying the government opted for a permanent modern structure rather than repeatedly compensating traders after repeated fire outbreaks.

He also referenced efforts to address flooding in parts of Keffi through infrastructure development funded by improved internally generated revenue.

Sule’s comments come amid growing public debate over performance benchmarks for elected officials at both state and federal levels.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
