The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Federal Government to include student representatives in the national Ebola emergency response committee, as precautionary measures intensify across the country.

NANS made the appeal in a statement following renewed concerns over the risk of Ebola transmission in parts of the region. The student body argued that involving young people in decision-making structures would improve awareness, strengthen communication, and ensure that preventive measures reach campuses effectively.

According to the association, students make up a significant portion of the population and are often among the most mobile groups, especially in urban centres and university communities. It stressed that their inclusion would help bridge information gaps and enhance early response efforts in the event of any outbreak.

NANS further urged the Federal Government and health authorities to intensify sensitisation campaigns across tertiary institutions, including lectures, awareness drives, and distribution of preventive materials. The group also called for improved screening at entry points and stronger coordination between health agencies and school administrations.

The association emphasized that its request is not political but driven by the need to protect students and support national preparedness efforts. It assured authorities of its readiness to collaborate with health officials in spreading accurate information and combating misinformation.

Health experts continue to advise vigilance, noting that early detection and public awareness remain key tools in preventing the spread of Ebola. The Federal Government has yet to formally respond to NANS’ request.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
