The National Association of Nigerian Students, North-Central Zone, has engaged the management of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, over complaints concerning delays in refunding students whose tuition had already been paid before NELFUND disbursements.

The intervention followed complaints from affected students, some of whom alleged that between ₦12,000 and ₦22,500 had been deducted from their refunds. NANS said students also raised concerns about transparency in the process.

The association’s Zonal Coordinator, Abiola Babatunde, said the engagement was aimed at obtaining clarification from the university and ensuring that eligible students received the money due to them.

During the meeting, the university Registrar, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, informed the delegation that the institution had commenced the disbursement of NELFUND refunds.

The Registrar also assured NANS that management was working to ensure all eligible beneficiaries received their refunds without further delay.

According to Babatunde, the university further agreed to address concerns over deductions from some students’ payments and examine any deductions considered unjustified.

NANS said it would continue monitoring the process until all eligible students receive their refunds.

The association urged the university to complete the exercise promptly, stressing that funds provided through NELFUND should be handled transparently and disbursed to the students entitled to them.
