NAIRA WEAKENS FURTHER AGAINST US DOLLAR IN OFFICIAL FX MARKET
The naira continued its slide against the United States dollar on Friday, closing the week on a weaker note at the official foreign exchange market.
According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the naira depreciated to N1,355.41 per dollar on Friday, down from N1,353.66 recorded on Thursday. This represents a daily loss of N1.75.
Meanwhile, in the parallel (black) market, the naira remained stable at N1,440 per dollar, the same rate as Thursday.
The week’s trading showed mixed movements across both exchange platforms, with more gains than losses recorded overall. On a week-on-week basis, the naira appreciated by N10.78 at the official market and N15 in the parallel market.
The gains were supported by a continued rise in Nigeria’s external reserves, which stood at $47.53 billion as of February 10, 2026.
